News from Ms. McLaughlin, School Counselor
Welcome Silver Ridge Panthers to another great school year here at SRE. I know this can be an exciting, yet hectic time for parents, students, and teachers. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new families, as well as our returning families. Below are some web sites and resources, which may prove, helpful and fun as we begin our 2016-17 school year.
If your child is a returning student, please take a few moments to have your child remind you what it means to be Bucket Filler! If your family would like to share in this ongoing Silver Ridge initiative, simply Google the book title Have You Filled a Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids by Carol McLoud. Teachers will be sharing this book with your students in the coming weeks! They are also in the process of reviewing the Code of Student Conduct Video and presenting the Anti-Bullying Policy Brainshark for students. Clear expectations of what we want to see from all SRE students is important as we begin our year and focus on learning in a challenging, secure, and safe environment.
Finally, we are excited to announce that this year, SRE is part of a BCPS pilot initiative for Social Emotional Learning (SEL). This initiative calls for all students to be exposed to lessons and activities that help students further develop their self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and decision-making skills. More information regarding this initiative will be forthcoming. Thank you for working with us to promote and enhance your child’s academic, social, and emotional development.
